It’s the final week of one of the most maligned months for Chicagoans, nd the siren song of March can finally be heard in the distance.
It’s time to shake off those winter blues and be reenergized by the vibrant goings on in our city. To help you on your way, we’ve chosen a few of the coolest events happening over the next 7 days.
February 14-March 20 at Ironside (6pm to midnight Wed-Sat only)
It’s been 15 years since Carrie Bradshaw and her fabulous friends appeared on the small screen for the last time, but the SATC love remains strong for many die-hard fans of the risqué HBO comedy. It’s so strong, in fact, that the show has inspired the latest in Chicago pop-up bars. Visitors are encouraged to cosplay and sample the specially designed cocktail menu with drinks named for all our favorite characters.
February 24 at The Empty Bottle
Stock up on unique gifts for your loved ones (and yourself) every second Saturday and fourth Sunday of the month now through the end of April at this indoor market. Appreciators of handmade goods will find a wide selection of jewelry, home décor, clothes, accessories and more, all from local Chicago makers. We recommend making a day of it and grabbing brunch at Bite Café next door.
February 24 at the Peggy Notbeart Nature Museum
If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to make more time to give back, then you’ll definitely want to attend this philanthropic expo with over 100 non-profits in Chicago that are looking for volunteers. With the huge variety of organizations there, you’re sure to find the perfect opportunity that addresses the cause closest to your heart, from the environment to social justice to arts education. You’ll even have the chance to do good right then and there by bringing canned goods or creating sleeping mats for the homeless using recycled plastic bags.
February 24 at Emporium Arcade Bar in Wicker Park
If your love for craft beer is only rivalled by your love for old-school arcade games, this beer fest is tailor-made for you. The online ticket price of $30 ($40 at the door) includes a bag of game tokens and tickets for 8 beer samples. The festival focuses particularly on the oft-misunderstood dark beers. And the cool part is that when you need a brew break, you can try your hand at classic games like pinball, air hockey, Pac Man and Space Invaders among many others.
February 23 at Brookfield Zoo
For those who prefer their booze sampling with a little more organic entertainment, this Brookfield Zoo event is sure to please. Not only will you get to taste delicious wines and whiskies (over 60 options all told), but there will also be delicious bites, live music and animal meet-and-greets! So, if your dream is a glass of wine in one hand and a unique animal in the other, you’ll be in heaven.
February 23 at Catalyst Ranch
Do you ever get jealous of little kids because their lives are so simple and fun? Well then now is your chance to embrace your inner child and let him/her run free. Adult campers will ditch their digital devices and grown-up inhibitions and simply play through crafting, movement, writing, singing, dancing, cooking and more. And your breakfast and lunch are even included, so you can fully relax the way kids do, knowing that everything will be taken care of for you.
