With it being the week of Valentine’s Day, there’s no shortage of Chicago events this week for local lovebirds. And while that’s all well and good, not everyone in the city has love on the brain.

February 9 at Navy Pier
In recent years, hard cider has had a real renaissance in the beer world. No longer just a sweet sidekick, this boozy apple beverage is the main star. And if you’re thinking that cider is a one-trick pony, think again. This festival features over 150 ciders, cider cocktails and apple spirits, and your entry tickets gets you 16 tasting tickets and a souvenir tasting glass. If you’ve had your fill of beer festivals, then the Cider Summit may offer just enough novelty to pique your interest.
February 15 & 16 at The University of Chicago
For lovers of folk culture from around the world, this unique festival in Hyde Park offers something truly special. The festival is a celebration of folk-art forms from places as near as Louisiana and as far as Scandinavia. Check out musical acts like Cajun Trio, T’Monde; bluegrass duo, The Price Sisters; and seven-piece jazz band, The Fat Babies. And for those who want to do more than watch, there’s a wide variety of interactive workshops that can teach you everything from Georgian singing to barn dancing.
February 9 and 10 at The Chicago Theatre
For parents who remember watching Sesame Street on Channel 11 as kids themselves, this special live performance will be a nostalgic treat both you and your kiddos will enjoy. This particular performance has a magic theme, so your favorite characters will get to learn dazzling magic tricks while also learning that they can do anything if they work hard and practice.
February 9-18 at McCormick Place
Touted as the largest auto chow in the country, this 9-day celebration of the automobile is a must see for local car enthusiasts. There will be a grand total of almost 1000 different vehicles from 36 different manufacturers from around the world. In addition to ogling beautiful new cars, visitors can check out exhibits on new auto technology and antique cars, and enjoy special themed days like Women’s Day, Telemundo Hispanic Heritage Day and Craft Beer night.
February 9 at John Barleycorn Pub
Question: If you’d never be judged, would you wear pajamas literally every day of your life? If you just nodded your head, then this event is for you. This roving PJ party starts with a breakfast buffet at 11am and then will travel to several of the hottest bars in the Wrigleyville neighborhood including Country Club, Deuce’s, HVAC, John Barleycorn, Moe’s Cantina, Old Crow, and Roadhouse 66. So, don your comfiest onesie or your fuzziest flannels and put your drinking shoes on for a full day of pub crawling.
February 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 & 27 at UP Comedy Club
Celebrate Black History Month through the eyes of brilliant comedy from some of the most hilarious African American, Second City alumni. The show will bring back to life iconic, archival sketches and put a new spin on them from today’s cast members. All of the sketches were written or acted by former alums like Keegan Michael Key, Tim Meadows, Sam Richardson, and Amber Ruffin among several others.
